The special thing about Springmount is that it offers a truly extensive range of plants all year round. It’s all thanks to Ella M Warren who loved gardening! Ella prepared wedding bouquets and wreaths locally, before moving on to dried flower arrangements (before it was popular). Her house at Christmas or special occasions had incredible floral displays.

She began the garden centre almost as a pastime in the late 1970’s. There was no shop – Ella worked in a dilapidated little hut, using a money box (We had no till for years!) Back then, we even sold antiques and jewellery as well (Don’t know how it all wasn’t stolen). The centre was known for terrific summer bedding – all grown from seed by Ella herself.

Eventually, her son began to give her a hand and the business grew. About 10 years later, Elaine, her daughter, returned from abroad and it was agreed to expand and maximise the 5 acre site.

A shop was opened in 2004. The old potting shed was replaced. New areas for the plants were created. Unlike our competitors, our main focus is plants. We also provide a landscaping service and have a gift and coffee shop, as well as a good range of furniture.
